Consider having your foundation waterproofed - wet or damp basements are definitely a nuisance.
Make sure proper drainage will be used to guide water away from the foundation.
Take in consideration the frost level when excavating for your foundation.
Concrete foundations
should extend above the final grade - helps wood stay above the soil and
protection
against moisture and/or insects
If you have decided to subcontract the Foundation out be sure to get at least 3 estimates.
